Creative Resume Writing

Creativity in writing your resume need not be difficult nor need it take away anything from the content.

The most important aspect of applying for a new job is actually the cover letter. There are many people who sweat for days or weeks over writing their resume only to whip out a quick cover letter which in many cases will not even get the resume read. The cover letter is the first thing that will be seen and the contents and presentation of this will decide if your resume actually gets read or not.

The cover letter isn't the only area where creativity is called for. The writing of the curriculum vitae is also important and should be creative too. This is usually longer than the standard resume and may include aspects of your personal life, and character as well as any other skill or piece of information that might be relevant to the position for which you are applying... be creative here and aim to strike interest in the eyes of the person who's job it is to read through possibly hundreds of application in one sitting.

Creative resume writing is also reflected in the actual layout of the page, the font used, the font size, the margins and the spacing on the page in general can all be taken into account.

Some other creative ideas might be to put your CV or resume on a CD or a web page where you might include an audio visual presentation of yourself showing the employer who you are, how you present yourself and of course having an 'out of the ordinary' approach will certainly get you noticed.

Though the general idea is to get noticed, make sure you don't go over the top. At the end of the day the employer will chose the person with the best aptitude for the job and that is what you are really aiming to present with your creative resume writing.
